I LOVE ABUSIVE MEN

          Shut up there!!!, Kunle yelled as he gave her a dirty slap across the face. The slap was so powerful that she found herself sprawling over the mattress. Maureen’s heart shook with fear, apprehension. This was the start of one of Kunles temper tantrums and violent routines. Before she could even say anything, Kunle had removed his belt from his trousers and started beating her mercilessly with it. He whipped her hard with all his strength and she yelled out in pain with nobody to rescue her. Kunle was her lover but then he was very violent and aggressive. The beating had become a routine and by now, she was used to it. Not only was she used to it, she in fact enjoyed it. The irony was that she enjoyed being made love to just after she had been beaten and today was not different.

          Kunle actually apoloised to her and kissed her after beating her and she enjoyed every minute of it. “I’m sorry baby girl, but you cannot question my authority, you must learn to obey me and you need discipline so you don’t do things the wrong way he said”, while he held her in his hands. After that, Kunle made love to her and she enjoyed every minute of it. She stayed with him over the weekend until she at last went back to her apartment in school as she was a student of Unilag (University of Lagos). She attended lectures normally throughout the week until the next weekend when she decided to travel home for the weekend. She did not always like it at home anyway as her father always turned her mother into a punching bag. The weekend she got home was no exception. She and her two brothers tayo and Biodun were watching television in the sitting room when they suddenly heard their mothers voice in the Kitchen. She rushed to the kitchen to see what was happening and as usual, her father was at it again. This time around, her father was raining hot slaps on her mother and her mother was begging him for mercy. “You this stupid woman, how can you dare resist my authority like that!!!!!!!, her father said with a loud voice. Maureen just stood there and watched. By now, she was used to it and even considered it an essential part of life. After raining a few slaps and punches on her mother her mother as it is came to her right senses, knelt down and begged him for forgiveness. “I am sorry, my husband, I will always love and respect you”, she said with tears in her eyes. Everybody in the family took this situation as normal and nobody in the family questioned their father over his violence and authoritarianism.

          That very day, she received a text message from her boyfriend but it was not Kunle, rather, it was Mathew, the other guy she was dating. Like most Nigerian girls her age, she dated more than one guy. Mathew was a very nice guy who treated her with a lot of love and respect and he never laid a finger on her or maltreated her in anyway. He was a student like her and so together, they arranged a date two weeks after that in a restaurant near their school. She was the first to get to the restaurant and as she sat there, she wondered in her mind if she should not just end her relationship with Mathew. Mathew to her was not a real man. He never showed her leadership and always behaved too much like a mummy’s boy. Mathew arrived at the restaurant a few minutes late and as he sat in front of her, he said “I am sorry, baby girl, I did not mean to be so late, I hope you do not feel hurt in anyway”. “No, I am not”, dear she replied while starring at him. “look I am sorry, I mean, real sorry”, Mathew said as he knelt down on one knee. “No, get up you don’t have to go that far, Maureen replied while looking at him. “This is just to show you that I love you”, Mathew replied. As Mathew was professing his love for her different thoughts crossed her mind. “This guy is too weak and cannot even lead a woman. Allways apologizing for everything. I don’t even like the way he begs me every time, this his kneeling down even makes him look like a coward”, she thought to herself as he looked at him.

          She just tolerated him throughout the date he had but then by the time she got back to her hostel that very same day, she sent him a text message that she was not interested again. Mathew was of course devastated and wondered why. As usual, she spent the following weekend with kunle her authoritarian lover but then as usuall, they had an argument and Kunle this time around actually punched her on the face and she had a black eye but then she did not mind as she really enjoyed being ordered around and beaten by a man. When she got back to her hostel from Kunle’s face, her face was swollen and it was so obvious that Toyin, her roommate noticed. Toyin knew all about her relationship with Kunle and as she looked at her, she said “Look, you have to leave that your boyfriend or monster Kunle alone before he turns you into a punching bag or he finally kills you one day. You just cannot go on like this”.

          Toyin did not agree with her, instead, she defended her boyfriend and proclaimed her undying love to him. She even said she liked him because he was manly and always in control of a woman which was what she wanted in a man. At this point, Toyin decided to leave her alone as she seemed unreasonable but then she recommended her to a phychologist who could understand her problems better.

          Kunle was always nice to her in order ways anyway as he often brought gifts for her and her most romantic time with him was on this particular weekend when he brought her an expensive clothes. She was very happy and that day she spent the night with him as usual. It was a beautiful night together but then, his unpredictable temper came up again and he started beating her up again the following morning. It was a slight argument that caused the fight and kunle did all he could to injure her. He actually boxed her like a real boxer and then hit her on the head with a piece of iron and she passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital by nieghbours who were around. It was a critical injury and she was unconscious for a few days. By the time she woke up to full consciousness, she looked around and saw that she was on the hospital bed. The doctors greeted her heartily and explained everything that happened to her and made her know the fact that it was her neighbours that rushed her to the hospital.

         

          One thing that suprissed her was that as she turned to her left, she also saw her mother lying critically ill on the hospital bed. Her mother told her that her father  had also beaten her to a comma and so it was mother and daughter on the hospital bed at the same time. At this point, both mother and daughter hugged each other in tears and they both realized that they needed help and like toyin her friend had said before, they needed counseling.

Many books have been written in human history but not like this one I am about to write. Many books are about history or even pre-history some are about economics, some about fashion and some about money. This book is basically about none of this. It is about the time before time. It is about the time before Adam was created in the garden of Eden. It is so long ago I wonder how anybody could have stumbled on this kind of strange information. Well, I did not realy discover this on my own. Instead I got it from a neighbor. I am a young man anyway and I just got a new job in a different part of the country where I live. I happened to be living in a quiet area but the woman living next door was very beautiful and luckily for me, she fell in love with me. She was a beautiful but strange woman, always alone, talking to herself and so, people thought her to be strange. I like strange people anyway as they are usually fascinating and beautiful on the inside. I got closer to her and then I discovered she was some sort of prophetes with all sorts of spiritual powers and knowledge. She thought me all forms of mysticism. Ideas I only thought possible in movies. She thought me how to float in the air like a butterfly and then one day, she actually told me the full account of Lucifers fall from heaven. The story was so detailed that I was fascinated. The remarkable thing about this story is that it is actually written in the stars. Yes if you have mystical knowledge and you study the stars at night you can actually figure out this story I am about to tell you. Well, you do not have to look at the stars at night or become an astrologer as I am going to tell you this story bit by bit. So just listen to this idea I am about to tell you. I am sure you have not seen anything like this before.

Now long, long ago, long before time existed. In the dateless pages of eternity before even Adam the first man was created there was what I will describe as the trinity. It is the one we call the Almighty God in the bible or quoran or whatever religion you believe in. The Universe was perfectly made and all the angels were one and happy. There were billions of angels in existence back then and there was nothing like pain, sorrow or sin in all of God’s universe. Now the angels had an hierarchal structure or organization just like any modern day company or establishment. Now all the angels were very beautiful, in fact, there is not human language that can be used to describe their beauty. They were all shining brighter than the modern day sun. The most powerful angels were nine in number and they were Gabriel, Micheal, Uriel, Amizpani, Jascanzi, Clustermoon, Wenditha, Jenthilascontimpa and lastly Lucifer. Out of all these nine angels, Lucifer was the most powerful and beautiful and he always ushered praises into God’s presence. Now, then the Universe that existed then was very different from the one we have now in this present day. It was a universe that had only seven galaxies and many planets. Lucifer was so full of wisdom, he knew the name of all the stars in the 7 galaxies of God’s creation. Now that was quite a feat for there were 10 billion stars in God’s creation and so his memory was even better than that of any modern day computer or electronic gadget. His eyes were clear blue as clear blue as the ocean and his body was made out of 7 colors which are the 7 colors of the rainbow. The colors were red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The colors just emited out of his body like a light bulb, one after the other. Now he was in perfect symphony with the trinity and he was very close to the Almighty God as he was the favorite of God’s creation. Now, I will begin my story with the time when all the angels gathered before the trinity to sing praises to the Almighty God. Lucifer as usual was there standing in front of the angels with his golden wings. The room where all the angels were gathered was big. In fact, bigger than any stadium that exists on this earth. Imagine a building or stadium that can hold 500 billion people at once. The walls of the room was decorated with all sorts of precious metals like gold, silver, bronze, sapphire, topaz e.t.c. It was like kind of an orchestra and Lucifer was the conductor. His voice sounded so magnificent that no body not even Micheal Jackson could have sung like that. This is how the song went

The Universe is full of your Glory

The whole galaxies explode

In praise to your name

Our hearts are filled with joy from your presence

Our bodies are portions of your glory

And your wisdom is mightier than the Universe

Oh Most High, worthy of praise

Authority to you.

At this point, the whole building exploded with the glory of God and a thick smoke hung in the air. A smoke that blinded everybody for sometime. The smoke was so powerful even Lucifer in all his glory had to postrate for some time. Now the angels always gathered to praise God whenever God requested them to. This is not to say there are no angels specifically dedicated to this duty. What really happens is that there are about 2 million angels who have the specific job of praising the almighty God everyday but then, sometimes God almighty called the other angels together just for a day when they can rejoice in God’s presence. Now all the angels postrated for sometime until the smoke went down and then the Almighty God spoke to the angels and each angel dispersed to his own side of the Universe to attend to his specific duty. Now Lucifer lived with the nine chief angels on the planet Heaven. The other angels never lived in heaven and they were located on other sides of the universe. When the praise worship session was over, Lucifer and his 5 friends walked out of the magnificient hall into the streets of the legendary heaven that we have heared so much about. Now heaven is a very large planet, 5000 times or even more larger than the planet earth. The streets of course were made of Gold and then there were different types of trees on planet heaven. In fact the trees are not like the ones we now see on planet earth. Some are purple, red, green or brown in color while some are actually orange in color. Now, the name of Lucifers 5 best friends were Gabriel, Micheal, Uriel, Amizpani and Jascanzi. I am sure you are farmiliar with Micheal and Gabriel but maybe you are not familiar with the other names as their names sound toungue twisting and difficult to pronounce. Well, not to worry as they spoke the language of angels which is now beyond human comprehension. They walked slowly along the streets of heaven and chatted among themselves as they were very good friends. Lucifer was of course a natural leader and he was also very charming and could easily start a conversation. As he dashed down the street, he sang a song to himself. It was a very lovely and nice song and it seemed to make all of them happy. As they were moving along, Jascanzi touched Lucifer by the shoulder and said “Tell me, how large is the Universe I mean is there somewhere where one can say that one has gotten to the end of the universe”. Lucifer laughed and said, well, the Universe is 7000 billion cubic lengths long and it expands everyday. “well, it is awesome I think that is beyond comprehension even to me an angel.”. Jascanzi replied with a smile on his face. “Well, dear friend, there are many things to learn in God’s Universe, I mean the very stars are so full of wonders I wonder if one could know about the gasses that are inside it or how exactly each one was formed”, Lucifer replied while holding Jascanzi by the shoulder. The three friends walked rather slowly and chatted together like birds or parrots. The street they walked along was broad, but it was not too wide anyway. The road was quite large and there were other angels walking up and down the streets as the planet heaven was always a busy and exciting place to be. Now, as they journeyed down this road, they came to a place where they saw a mighty stream. This stream was located by the side of the road and it was gushng and full of water. It was more of a mixture of gases and liquids than it was water. The gases bobbled up and down the water like soda water and though the gases that came out of the water seemed to make the water look hot, the water was not hot. There seemed something mysterious about this water even to an angel. Not many of the angels ever went there but today, it seemed that Lucifer actually wanted to swim in it. There was nothing in the laws of the most high that seemed against this but then most of the angels did not go there. When they got in front of the stream, Lucifer paused in front of his friends and said “hey brothers, let us swim in this waters, I wonder why nobody swims there, it’s time I broke this myth called the mystery water”. “Well, maybe we are not meant to know”, said Gabriel with a smile on his face. “I don’t really think so the Universe that the Almighty created is meant for us to explore!!”, Lucifer said while shouting on top of his voice. Nobody wanted to follow him but then he was a natural leader and just rushed towards the stream. The stream was huge. What I mean is that it was not so wide but that it was very deep. It was so deep one could not swim into it’s very bottom. Lucifer this time did not walk there but he flew there. He stood by the banks of this river looking at it with a mixture of curiousity and apprehension. It was a long time since he swam in it and he just wanted to know exactly what it was. The other angels could not fly as fast as he could and by the time they were beside him, he was already inside this mysterious water. The water was so large that it swallowed him as soon as he entered. The water was warm (that is not too cold or not too hot) and it was somehow pleasing to the body. The other angels were too scared to jump inside and they just stood by the banks of the river. The river made him feel a huge amount of happiness he had not felt before. Happiness and at the same time an ability to know all the mysteries in the Universe. Even the ones that existed before he was created. While inside the water, he suddenly had visions and insights he had never seen before in all his existence in God’s universe. What he saw was that the Almighty seemed to create another set of living beings different from his own. He did not know why or for what reason, all he saw were 2 of God’s brand new creatures walking in a garden. He tried to reason this out but he could not reach a final answer to this mystery. The river made him to feel a certain great event was going to happen but he did not know what exactly it was. He did not swim for too long anyway as he was soon out of the water. This water did not make his clothes to be wet as it was divine beyond any human knowledge or even angelic comprehension. His friends just stared wide at him as he swam in the water like a fish. He always amazed his friends with the things he did. He joined them as they sat by the banks of the river chattering to themselves. As he flew back to them, Gabriel gave him a pat on the shoulder and said “Next, time, don’t go near that river, you cannot know everything in the universe all at once. Few people ever go near that river”. “Well, the Almighty has not said that we should not swim in it, it seems to me that all of you just large courage, after all, God wants us to enjoy everything in his good universe”. The other angels tried to see reason with him but then he did not see reason with them. They were soon back on the road anyway and the four friends were chattering to themselves like butterflies flying about in a garden. They walked around the mighty, glorious planet heaven for sometime before they finally decided to fly to another part of the Universe. The four friends had gone on many adventures before and they were about to go on another one. The held their hands together and flew straight in the air. As they flew in the air, and left the planet heaven, Lucifer could behold the whole glory of this wonderful world. He was always happy the almighty God had created such a beautiful place where he and his other angels could live, worship and glorify his holy name. They flew straight out of the planet until they were finally in outer space. The universe was a glorious place now. The stars were moving all over the place, dancing as if somebody was playing music for them. He was of course leading them and they flew to a far side of the Universe they rarely ever went to. Lucifer always pushed them to limits they could not imagine. They had to fly as fast as possible as he could even travel faster than the three of his friends. His movement among the stars was swift. His body glistened and shone like never before in the vast space of God’s universe. At last, they were on the far side of the universe. One particular intriguing thing about this far side of the universe was the fact that it was filled with an incandescent light that vibrated
